Why Do I Get Worse Hangovers than My Friends?

If you’re anything like us, you’ve woken up after a long night out with a ravaging hangover that causes you to question the meaning of life itself, while your friends are all blowing up your phone talking about which bar they want to get to or what brunch spot to hit. And while your friends get ready to attack the weekend, you lay there hopelessly in bed thinking this is the end.

So that begs the question, why do you feel so awful, but your friends seem totally fine? Doesn’t seem fair does it? Well, science has an answer to that question: genetics. Turns out, some people are just naturally better at metabolizing alcohol out of their bodies.

Your body breaks down alcohol in essentially what is a two-step process (check out the more science page for the graphic). First, your body breaks alcohol down into acetaldehyde, a formaldehyde derivative which can be up to 30x more toxic than the actual alcohol itself, and then ultimately into a benign compound called acetate. This process takes place in the liver, which produces enzymes called alcohol dehydrogenase and aldehyde dehydrogenase that catalyzes the metabolic process in its respective steps. So going back to our question of why are my friends feeling okay while I am getting closer and closer to the light, in short, some people are just able to produce more enzymes or higher quality enzymes. There have actually been a few horrifying studies that show there are people who can’t produce these enzymes at all (hopefully that’s not you, but if it sends us an email for 99% off on Cydekick) and experience extremely adverse reactions to alcohol consumption.

Enter Cydekick.

Ok, so we’ve established that is not your fault that you feel this way. Your friends are just better at synthesizing enzymes that metabolize alcohol, a skill worth being envious of but just wait, this is where Cydekick comes in. Your friends may have a superior enzyme producing microbiome, but we’re all in the same boat when it comes to the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that alcohol destroys in your body. When you drink a Cydekick, you absorb enough vitamins to allow your body to continue on with its normal functions even after the effects of alcohol. Additionally, a blend of super antioxidants does something no enzyme can do and that neutralizes toxic cells, which are more than plentiful in your body when you are drinking alcohol. Cydekick does this and a whole lot more to help you have a great night and a better morning. Check out the more science page to find out more.

If you aren’t one of the few blessed with the genes that can help you shrug off a night out the morning after, head over to the shop and try out Cydekick for yourself. You won’t regret it.
